Why? Wednesday #6

Me: Ella, please don’t lick your dad’s shoe.
Ella: Why?
Me: Because it’s dirty.
Ella: Why?

Oh, the questions just keep getting better and better. Sometimes, it’s all I can do to not laugh. Like yesterday morning when I was getting the girls ready to go out, and I look over to see Ella licking Eric’s shoe. After I grabbed it away from her, it was all I could do to not grab her and scrub her mouth with soap. Seriously, who licks shoes? GROSS!

Just a quick recap, when you post your comment below, you’re entered into a draw to win a 30 minute Skype or phone call with Eric. Be creative with the questions that you ask, he can handle it! Every month, we’ll draw one winner from all the entries we received for a 2 hour face to face photography tutorial with either Eric or I. (It could be anything from the basics of learning how to use your camera better, to the complex of advanced Photoshop techniques. You choose what you want to learn and we’ll pick who’s best at teaching it!)

And the question again…

Me: Ella, please don’t lick your dad’s shoe.
Ella: Why?
Me: Because it’s dirty.
Ella: Why?

Have fun with this one! Congrats to Ann, our winner from last week’s Why? Wednesday! You have until 9 pm on Feb 28th to get your answers in!

Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Tuesday’s tip – Workflow and how to avoid the Great Cleanup!

Wow, we’ve come to the end of the Great Cleanup. Thank you to those of you who followed along, I hope you found it helpful. Now a tip on how to avoid ever having to do it again!

After you’ve spent the day making photographs, come home and download your cards right away. Once you’ve loaded them to your computer, go through and delete the ones you don’t want, do your keywording, rename the files and put them into the correct folders on your hard drive. Then don’t forget to BACK EVERYTHING UP!! If you can follow these steps everyday, it’ll never become an overwhelming task again.

I have found that when people get on top of the workflow every day, they tend to take less photographs. You will start asking yourself, “Am I really going to keep this photograph when I get home tonight?” or “What am I going to do with this photograph?” before you press the shutter. You’ll start taking less photographs and that means less editing and more time away from your computer. After all, this is what we all want.

See you next week.

We’re on Etsy!

Every year, I sit down and write out my goals for the year. Small ones. Big ones. And ones that scare me. It can be so easy to allow yourself to just hum along in life. Doing the same thing every day. This is not always a bad thing, but it usually means little excitment.

That’s why I’m so excited to announce the launch of our own little Etsy Shop. We’ve only posted a few cards, but are working on more pieces to be added in the coming weeks.

A little peek at a couple of the designs.

Happy Monday :)

Simple Things…

The other night, as I was pulling out leftovers for dinner, Ella came into the kitchen and wanted to help. She was very excited about helping, but there really wasn’t anything to do. So I had her set the table. One thing at a time. She ran back and forth between the table and the kitchen, happy as could be. Telling me, “I be very careful” as she took a plate or glass from my hand.

Not a bad job for a 2 1/2 year old!

It truly is the simple things in life that make me happy :)

Keep smiling!

Why? Wednesday #5

Me: Ella, Please don’t bang on the window with your toy.
Ella: Why?
Me: Because you might break it.
Ella: Why?
Me: Because it’s glass.
Ella: Why?

Ella is getting more and more “creative” with her why questions. Sometimes I look at Eric and we share a silent chuckle, before we try and answer the question. Sometimes finding an answer is harder than you’d think… especially when you reach the 5th or 6th Why? I always wanted to be the parent that did more than just answer “because I said so.” This is also becoming increasingly difficult, so I’m hoping you can help me out :)
