A Saturday Drive

Lately, I’ve been on a little bit of a “prop” buying spree. I’ve been looking for things that have character but that don’t take away from the person I’m photographing. If you read my post on Monday, you’ll have caught a glimpse of a couple of beautiful wood bowls. These were made by Ken Broadland of Heartwood Studios in Duncan. Before our session with Noah, Eric and I drove up to Ken’s studio, as I thought I might be able to find what I’ve been looking for. I was not disappointed. I actually had trouble making a decision on what I wanted to purchase. Everything in his tiny studio is gorgeous. I wish I’d had more time to browse, instead we were on a deadline, as we had to be back in Victoria for our session at noon! The two hours of driving were so worth it, and I’m so excited with our puchases. I’ll also be heading back at some point in the future, as I’m sure there was lots that I missed in my rush!

My favourite piece was this beautiful Red Cedar Burl. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

And here it is in use…

If you’re looking for a unique gift, I’d definitely recommend something from Ken.

Keep Smiling 🙂
