When we first found out we were expecting Tehya, I was a little worried about how Ella would do. She’s a very loving child, but she can also be a little protective of her “mommy time.” So when Eric and I stumbled upon this book, I was super excited.
It talks about all the things that are going to change but also all the great things that happen as a NEW BIG SISTER! We started reading it to Ella a couple of months before Tehya was born and it quickly became her favourite book at bedtime. For a while, I could recite the entire book from memory, because I’d read it so much. The best thing has been how loving Ella is towards Tehya and I think a big part of this is the book. When she wakes up in the morning, she asks, “Can I hold my Tehya, please?” If I come into her room in the morning with Tehya, she immediately moves over and says, “There’s a space for you here, Tehya.” She smothers her with kisses to the point I think it sometimes annoys Tehya. She loves to have a bath with her, she’ll grab me a diaper if I need one, and she’ll sit beside her while I cook dinner. She is a FANTASTIC big sister.
The other day, I was putting a load of laundry in and left Tehya lying on our bed for a moment. Ella had been in and out of the room a couple of times, but I came back to this scene.
Ella was reading Tehya a story and Tehya was staring at her and cooing. It melted my heart and I simply had to photograph it. Guess I had nothing to worry about!
