On Saturday, Eric, Ella and I went to check out the Camp Goodtimes site at Loon Lake in Maple Ridge. The whole purpose of our trip, was to see where we will be volunteering in a few weeks time. Eric and I will be onsite for July 3rd and 4th to photograph approximately 25 families, all of whom have been affected by childhood cancer. These families have members who range in age from 5 months to 81 years old. It will be an interesting mix of people, to say the very least.
For me, Saturday was a little like going home. They were in the middle of holding volunteer orientation, so it was great to see some old friends and be warmly welcomed back. I can hardly believe that it’s been almost ten years since I was last there.
I’ve always found it hard to put into words just how amazing Camp is. Words like magical, special, awesome have often been used but all of these words don’t even come close to describing it. Camp is just Camp and anyone who’s had the privilege of volunteering there will tell you it’s an honour. The bonds that are formed often last well beyond that one week. You share, you laugh, you cry, you grow. You never are quite the same as you were before you went. I personally think this is a good thing.
Here’s a little peek at how peaceful and beautiful the site it.
Happy Wednesday! (And hopefully a Canuck Stanley Cup win tonight!!)
