Dear ******, Thank you!

Sorry, but there will be no Tuesday’s tip today. I will post it tomorrow, I promise. Instead, I’m going to tell you a little story. Yesterday morning, while biking to work, Eric had a bit of a run in with a dump truck. He’s okay, a little stiff, a little bruised, a little scraped up but he’s still here, walking and talking. For this I’m extremely grateful. The cops that attended the scene were amazed that Eric walked away from it. He’s so very lucky. His bike, not so lucky 🙁 This too is okay, because a bike can be replaced, whereas Eric can’t.

I’m the type of person who believes that everything happens for a reason. You may not always understand what the reason is at the time, but it’s always there. Every morning when Eric sets out for work, I give him a kiss and say “I love you and ride safe”. In the nearly three years that he’s been biking to work, this is his first accident. He’s smart and very aware when he’s biking. I’m sure this is part of the reason I’m able to write this post today. He saw the tires turning and was able to swerve with the truck. I’m sure this saved his life.

This incident also reminded me of a few things. Things that we sometimes take for granted.

1 – Always say “I love you” when someone leaves the house.
2 – No matter how morbid it may seem, make sure you have your “affairs” in order, especially if you have kids.
3 – Be grateful. EVERY SINGLE MOMENT. Life can change in an instant.

Give your family an extra hug today. Maybe “right a wrong”. Learn something from our close call. If nothing else, never let the last words you say to someone be ones that you may regret.

And whatever deity you say your thanks too, give them an extra one from me. Thank you for bringing Eric home safe. While Ella doesn’t have much of an idea of what happened yesterday, I know in ten years, it’s going to matter that her dad is still here.
