Helping Hearts

A few weeks ago, I posted about Shooting Stars and how excited I was to be a part of this new organization that was just getting started. Shortly after I joined, the organizer wondered about joining forces with one of the other similar organizations in BC. So after a couple of days, Shooting Stars merged with Helping Hearts. Helping Hearts now has approximately 70 photographers and have expanded across Canada. Having just started at the beginning of 2010, we’re all working hard to spread the word. If you know of anyone who is in need of photographs, please refer them to the website. (They have had a few problems with their web hosting, so if the above link doesn’t work the first time, please try it again!)

As for my personal reasons to be a part of this amazing group of photographers. There are many.

I had the opportunity to work with some amazing kids, many years ago at Camp Goodtimes. Here, I learned a LOT about myself but also, I truly saw how valuable photographs were. I still look back on those photographs, remember the beautiful souls that were only here for a short time, celebrate their lives and how they left my heart forever changed. I also look back and smile when I see how far many of them have come. One of my “campers” is now a wonderful friend, attending her 3rd year of University and doing great!

My family. I feel so lucky to have Ella. She’s a beautiful, healthy little girl and for that, I am grateful. I cherish the photographs that I have of her, especially the monthly sessions that I did during her first year, so MANY changes!

Only 2 days old.

At six months.

All dressed up for her first birthday party!

Just a couple of days ago…

But the simplest reason. Because it feels good to give back. It feels good to share hope and to celebrate LIFE. There are good times and bad times and the times in between. Life is ever changing. As Forrest Gump would say, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” You don’t know the cards that you will be dealt, all you have control over is how you handle it.

Hope you all enjoy the sunshine on this beautiful Wednesday.

Keep smiling and don’t forget to spread the word!
