Today is the first day back to school for most kids… unless you live in BC. Ella’s been super excited all summer about Kindergarten, and to her incessant questions about when class is going to start, I’ve taken to answering her with, “I don’t know, the teachers and the government are fighting.” I have to be honest, this isn’t a lot of fun.
I’m not going to start a political debate about who’s right and who’s wrong, nor will I pretend to truly understand both sides of this dispute. All I know is that my little girl really wants to start school today, just like her dad. (For those of you who don’t know, Eric teaches photography at Langara College.)
So this is what I’ve decided to do instead. Today… Ella will be starting at “mommy school”. She’s always been a bit of a night owl and despite my best efforts for the last month, she still tends to stay up later than she should and sleep in a little in the morning. Today, I’ll be waking her up, as we have a schedule to meet. She’ll need to be dressed and ready to leave for school by 8:30 in the morning! I’ve also looked up the curriculum online, I’ve picked up some workbooks and I’ll be helping her to build her skills… so that when this dispute is over, and she can truly head to school, she’ll be at least a little prepared 🙂
Our little “classroom corner” in the playroom, all ready to go!
