Little things…

When I first became a mom, I discovered that with all the joy and amazing discoveries, also came something I like to call “mom guilt.” It’s the guilt you feel when something happens to your child that is completely out of your control. The rational side of you knows that kids fall, they get cuts and scrapes, accidents happen. The irrational side of you wants to wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them safe forever.

Then there are things like this…

Since Tehya was about two months old, we’ve been trying to resolve a rash that has covered her legs, arms and back. I’ve done things like only put her in cotton, changed our laundry soap, tried another laundry “detergent” called soap nuts, only given her a bath with water, changed the hand soap we used, not put cream on my hands…the list goes on and on. When I first talked to the doctor about it, he thought it was possibly a contact rash. Hence changing the laundry detergent. Now, he thinks it’s eczema. Then yesterday, I took her back to the doctor, because the rash on her hands (courtesy of the thumb sucking) was inflamed. Not quite a staph infection, but close. “Here’s a prescription for cortisol cream to clear it up.” Huge MOM GUILT.

As a mom, I always thought I would have the choice of what to put on my baby’s skin. I made natural bum cream, soap and massage oil. But when faced with the chance of Tehya getting an infection, I didn’t feel like I had a choice.

So I’ll put this out there. Do you have kids with extremely sensitive skin? What have you used? It hurts me to see Tehya’s skin so red, scaly and possibly painful, even though she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it and is happy as can be! I just want to fix it…
