Sea Lions!

For Christmas this year, part of my gift from Eric was an Animal Encounter at the Vancouver Aquarium. I was very excited! I even got to choose between an encounter with the Sea Otters, Sea Lions or Schoona, the Sea Turtle. Yesterday, I went to meet the Sea Lions.

The Aquarium does a great job on putting together a presentation to educate and entertain. You get to go behind the scenes and see where they prepare the food… and how much fish they need for one day to feed all the mammals! (Let’s just say it’s A LOT!!) Then we headed into another area and got to meet the some of their Northern Fur Seals, see where the other two Belugas live and finally meet a Sea Lion. The Sea Lions and Northern Fur Seals are at the Aquarium as part of a research project to try and figure out why their numbers have dropped from over 260,000 to about 40,000 in the last 30 years.

After I was done my encounter, I found Eric and Ella, who’d been wandering around the Aquarium. We took in a few more of the exhibits before finishing up with a Dolphin show. All in all, a fantastic day!
