Yesterday, I spent the day cooking and baking. I managed to get a huge pot of spaghetti sauce made and most of my Christmas baking done. It felt really good and after reading a friend’s facebook status, I felt very lucky. The reason I felt so lucky is quite simple, I have food to cook with. My child will not go hungry and I am surrounded by friends and family who love me. This makes every day so very special.
What my friend had shared, was that a friend of hers is struggling to put food on the table for her four kids. This single mom was feeling gulity asking for help, so my friend was doing it on her behalf. Today, we will share a little bit of our abundance and that also feels good. I know from reading the posts on facebook, that this family will be well looked after for the next little while. This makes me smile. Sometimes the people that need the most help are connected to you by a thread of friendship. Sometimes, instead of a hand out, they need a hand up. They simply need to know that there are people out there who care and will help if asked.
Today, I leave you with this thought. Take a close look at the people who surround you, your community of friends. Do any of them need a little help? I often think at this time of year, we get so wrapped up in shopping and gift giving, that we forget what is truly important. A full tummy and the love of your family.
