As a photographer, I think there are few things more valuable than photographs. They are our link to the past. They are what help us to remember. They freeze a moment in time, so that we can look back at it and savour it. As a mom, I’m grateful to be able to capture the different milestones as my kids grow and change.
When Ella was born, we made the decision that we would photograph her once a month for the first year, and then every six months after that. We’ve done the same thing with Tehya. Lately, I’ve been working on putting together Tehya’s first year album (yes, I know, it’s long past due!) and what I love the most, is being able to see how much she’s changed… but also that some of her personality has been there right from the start!
I’m a little late with these, but on the weekend, I finally found some time to capture some portraits of Tehya to mark her turning two and a half. I can’t believe how fast time flies!
One thing that has been a constant from the very start… her extremely expressive little face. I LOVE how she wears her heart on her sleeve, and you never have a moment of doubt whether or not she’s happy or sad!
This one makes my heart happy, when I look at it, I can hear her laughter in my mind.
I don’t often play with flare when I’m photographing, but I LOVE how this turned out. I also love how you can see her dirty, scuffed up knees in this shot 🙂
This one is definitely one of my favourite images from the weekend… and Eric’s too! I love her wild, crazy hair, which she refuses to let me put into clips or into ponytails. If I do manage to get it done, she rips it out moments later! I love the slight bit of imp that you can see coming out. I love how this image makes me want to reach out and pinch her chubby little cheeks… or smother them in kisses!!
To my dear, sweet Tehya… There’s a part of me that wishes you could stay this small forever, but I know you can’t. And for as much as I wish you to stay small, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ll do as you get older. I love our night time cuddles and the way you sometimes reach out to stroke my cheek. I love the way you hug with your entire being. I LOVE your laugh and the way you love to play. I love your mischievous grin and when you “sneak” up on us to tickle us. You are an amazing little girl and every day I am reminded of what a lucky mom I am. Thank you for being you. I love you.
