Eric and I have had this debate for a loooonnnnnggggg time. Film vs. Digital. Which is better and why? Until we bought our D700 last year, I did 95% of my sessions in black and white film. There were so many things that I loved about film. I loved the anticipation of getting my film back. It meant trusting myself that I got the photos that I wanted. I loved the richness of the film texture. I loved being able to drop my work off at my lab and get it back a few days later. Although, I did miss the days when I’d spend hours in the darkroom perfecting my prints.
When Eric and I first met, he thought I was a little crazy to still be working in film. He was of the opinion that digital was soooo much better. You got instant feedback and he thought there wasn’t much that you couldn’t do with a digital file.
Now I’m sort of in the middle. I love the convenience of digital. I love the work that Eric’s able to do in Photoshop to make my images really standout. I love the fact that I have a great lab that is able to produce images that I’m thrilled with. However, there’s still a part of me that misses my black and white film. Maybe I’m just a little too old school. Maybe I’m just slow to change my ways. Whatever the case, I’ll still be pulling out film when I feel like it and spending time in a darkroom when I can 🙂
Have a wonderful day and keep smiling!
