What I learned from a “forced” week off?

Ella came home from school a week ago Friday with a fever. Slowly, over the next couple of days, the rest of us got sick too. Usually, when the kids or Eric end up sick, I don’t. I just happily chug along with the odd cold, but never something worse. I think the last time I had the flu was in 1996. So to be “forced” to be in bed, because I literally couldn’t stand up, certainly was not my idea of a good time. I had too much to do!

The worst part of being sick in bed for two days, was the after effects… a complete lack of energy. I’ve spent a LOT of time of the couch, just watching movies with the kids. I’m still not back to my full energy, despite the amount of sleep and rest I’ve had. It’s a little frustrating.

But… I always like to find the silver lining. Being sick and unable to do anything except think, has had me brainstorming ideas. Things I want to try, things I want to learn, things I want to create. As much as I hate to admit it, the break has been good for my creativity. I spend so much time “doing”, that I sometimes forget to just “be”… and that through “being”, I’m able to recharge and refocus.

So, while I wouldn’t wish this flu on my worst enemy, I’m looking forward to reaping the benefits from my forced downtime!
