“What do I Wear??” is the question that I’m asked most often when someone books a session. I thought with our event just around the corner on Sunday, it would be a good time to recap some of what I talked about in this post.
1 – Wear something you are comfortable in and makes you feel good about yourself. Your favourite top (see next “rule” to see if it qualifies!) and a pair of dark jeans will go a long way to creating images that you will love.
2 – Avoid stripes, busy patterns and really bold colours. This is especially important with kids. I know it’s hard to find clothes that don’t have their favourite cartoon character all over them, but it’s distracting and pulls your attention away from their beautiful little smiles π
I love this image of Tehya, but I really wish I’d planned her clothing better. Her sleepers pull your focus away from her face.
Last month, when we took these photos, I’d planned a little better π
3 – Keep things simple. Simple make up (if you wear it), simple hair, simple clothes. The more “embellishments”, the more there is to pull the focus away from you.
4 – If you’re doing family portraits, co-ordinating the outfits adds a cohesive look. (ie. everyone in jeans and dark tops.)
This is a great example from a session we did last year. Dolma always does a great job of co-ordinating her family!
5 – Think about where you’re going to display your photograph. What type of clothing would complement the colour scheme or feel of the room?
Hope this helps!
Happy Friday and I look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday!
